The Honda CR-Z looks stunning inside and out, it’s fun to drive, and every version is well equipped. The hybrid system works smoothly, gives good performance and keeps running costs low.
There’s a lot of road noise at high speed and the rear seats are useless. CO2 emissions aren’t as low as in some diesel-engined rivals.

The new hybrid Honda CR-Z tries to be sporty and fuel-efficient at the same time. Consumer Reports takes a first look to see if it succeeds.

This is a test of the launch control (2-step) at 4500 RPMs of the turbocharged Bisimoto 533hp sport hybrid Honda CR-Z, using the wonderful AEM Series 2 EMS. This electronic concept allows for consistent standing starts at the drag strip or road race course, for the very best in traction from rest.
The hybrid’s integrated motor assist (IMA) also acts as a starter, providing smooth satrs without the archaic starter “clunk”.

Mugen is a company that doesn’t do things by half — and lately Honda’s tuning arm has been extremely busy.
The world’s most skeletal car, the Ariel Atom has been given a power boost without the need for a supercharger. The result is a 270bhp output from its 2.0-litre Honda-sourced engine that makes it just about the fastest thing on four wheels. Alongside the Atom Mugen we drove the CR-Z Mugen — currently a one-off tuned version of the hybrid coupe.
Honda tell us that it’s the world’s first sporty hybrid coupe with an electric motor assisting its 1.5 litre petrol engine. And with claims of 56 miles per gallon and exemption from the London congestion charge, it sounds pretty tempting.
