They've done it, the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series is the new production car lap record holder at the Nürburgring Nordschleife! With a time of 6:43.616 the GT BS takes the title from the Aventador SVJ as the fastest car around the legendary Green Hell. You can bet I'm now beyond excited for the arrival of mine in a few months!

Since the first test mules a few years ago started appearing at the Nürburgring during the Industry Pool sessions, there has been endless speculation and guesswork as to what time the car would eventually achieve. After a flurry of recent records from the Porsche 918 Spyder at 6:57.00, then to the Lamborghini Huracan Performante at 6:52.01, before the GT2 RS at 6:47.44 and most recently the Aventador SVJ lapping in 6:44.97, it is now a record that AMG can claim for the first time ever.

The 6:43.616 time reflects the traditional 20.6km circuit as used by Sport Auto, with the full notarized lap under the new regulations coming in at 6:48.047 - all explained in the video. The car itself was driven by AMG GT3 pilot Maro Engel, in a customer specification vehicle with Mercedes-AMG published the full configuration from camber to damping settings that can be replicated by all customer vehicles.

A huge congratulations goes to Maro and the team for this immense achievement, I'm beyond excited for them and can only imagine what might even be possible on a completely dry track.
