The leaked premium compact SUV was previewed by a concept last year and its overall design will be heavily influenced by the XC60 and XC90. Volvo has already confirmed the interior will have a number of storage compartments including bins in the doors that are large enough to hold a tablet or laptop. There will also be a special storage area for a tissue box and slots in the dashboard to store credit and service cards. The XC40 will ride on the company's new Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) and compete with the BMW X1, Audi Q3, and Mercedes GLA. Engine options remain unconfirmed but the crossover is expected to be offered with a 1.5-liter three-cylinder petrol engine. Rumors also indicate there will be a diesel option as well as a plug-in hybrid variant which could travel up to 30 miles (48.2 km) on electricity alone.
