They’ve done it, the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series is the new production car lap record holder at the Nürburgring Nordschleife! With a time of 6:43.616 the GT BS takes the title from the Aventador SVJ as the fastest car around the legendary Green Hell. You can bet I’m now beyond excited for the arrival of mine in a few months! Official lap run video: Since the first test mules a few years ago started appearing at the Nürburgring during the Industry Pool sessions, there has been endless speculation and guesswork as to what time the car would eventually achieve. After a flurry of recent records from the Porsche 918 Spyder at 6:57.00, then to the Lamborghini Huracan Performante at 6:52.01, before the GT2 RS at 6:47.44 and most recently the Aventador SVJ lapping in 6:44.97, it is now a record that AMG can claim for the first time ever. The 6:43.616 time reflects the traditional 20.6km circuit as used by Sport Auto, with the full notarized lap under the new regulations coming in at 6:48.047 – all explained in the video. The car itself was driven by AMG GT3 pilot Maro Engel, in a customer specification vehicle with Mercedes-AMG published the full configuration from camber to damping settings that can be replicated by all customer vehicles. A huge congratulations goes to Maro and the team for this immense achievement, I’m beyond excited for them and can only imagine what might even be possible on a completely dry track. For [More]

During the Industry Pool at the Nürburgring I have filmed the 2020 Mercedes-AMG GT R Black Series. Last weeks we saw a Mercedes-AMG GT R wearing camouflage and a crazy hood with some seriously large vents in it. Today there’s another sighting – this time at the Nürburgring – and the bonkers hood has brought some friends. As far as we can tell, this is the forthcoming GT R Black Series, though it’s unclear whether these wild aero tweaks will make it to production. What’s up with the massive biplane spoiler on the decklid? It’s nothing like the previous Black Series prototypes we’ve seen. For that matter, the front fascia sports several adjustable winglets that we haven’t seen before, either. Another interesting addition on this prototype are louvered vents in the front fenders, and they appear to draw straight from the AMG GT R Pro. As for the rear, let’s just say we highly doubt that’s a production-spec fascia, because janky doesn’t even begin to describe what we see there. Is Mercedes testing out different aero packages for the Black Series? That’s certainly a possibility, but with such few sightings under our belt thus far, it’s hard to say one way or the other. Either way, we do know the rebirth of the Black Series should be seriously fast, as rumors tell us this GT R will pack over 700 horsepower. It seems the folks from Affalterbach have visions of besting the Porsche 911 GT2 RS – a vehicle which [More]

With an officially measured and notarized certified time of 6.43.616 min for the 20.6 kilometer-long track, measured without the straight at track section T13, and 6.48.047 min for the 20.832 kilometer-long total track, measured with the straight at track section T13, the new V8 meteor is placed in the top group of the street-legal “sports cars” category and number one among the fully standard, unmodified models. “It’s really impressive how much downforce the Black Series generates and how confident and reliable it can be driven, even at the absolute limit. My hat is off to the developers from Affalterbach for what they have put on wheels here. And I’m very pleased that I was able to demonstrate these fascinating engineering skills with this great lap time,” said Engel. ► Experience the world of Mercedes-AMG: ► More interesting playlists: Mercedes-AMG GT: Track Focused Vehicles: Best of Mercedes-AMG: ► Mercedes-AMG on Social Media: #mercedesamg #amggtblackseries #mercedesamg #gtblackseries #gt #blackseries #amg Product may vary after press date on 18.11.2020. * Die angegebenen Werte wurden nach dem vorgeschriebenen Messverfahren ermittelt. No other road-legal vehicle has ever been so fast on ‘The Green Hell’ track. Lars Kern was at the wheel of the sports car, which had been especially set up for the ‘Nordschleife’ by Porsche engineers and Manthey-Racing experts. The Porsche GT2 RS MR is the fastest road car on the Nürburgring Nordschleife, and my experience of a hot lap tells me exactly why! Blasting from bridge to gantry in a mere 6:55.5 with Tim Morley at the wheel of Robert Mitchell’s Manthey Racing Porsche, it’s quite something to behold. During the Manthey Racing Trackday hosted on the Green Hell we are surrounded by incredible Porsches of all descriptions but arguably none more special than the Ring’s record holder in the form of a few GT2 RS MRs dotted around, one of which belongs to my friend, Robert Mitchell. To get an understanding of what exactly this car is, and how it set a full laptime record of 6:40.3, Robert takes a break from his new YouTube channel to show us around and explain through the host of track time focused modifications that Manthey Racing have made to it. From there on though it’s into the passenger seat with Tim Morley at the wheel to be shown what it’s made of. Tim has covered thousands of Ring laps, including running as a taxi driver, and many at the wheel of this car and as such knows a thing or two. The car itself has pounded round in excess of 500 times and even on this lap it’s smooth, comfortable, not bouncing off kerbs but proving a point that this is a serious force to be reckoned with. Without any shadow of a doubt, it’s the fastest lap I’ve ever [More]
What’s there more to say? Without a doubt the most violent and extreme experience in a McLaren Senna around the Nürburgring – like it should be! Get in touch with me on social:
My McLaren Senna at the Nürburgring, what an insane experience! I’m back on the Ring, this time with the ultimate Shmeemobile to put the foot down for some laps and soak up the madness of the experience. It’s a different level of performance, and an incredible place to drive, I’m still trying to process it all! For the first time, I’ve finally been able to bring McLaren Senna over from the UK with my AMG G63 in a trailer that I rented from Barwell Trailers. This had been the plan from over a year ago when I ordered the G63 and gave it the Topaz Skin to match the spec of the Senna, but finally after many delays with the Senna incident, winter and the virus, it’s time for an epic adventure. The first stop is of course returning to the Nürburgring Nordschleife, having recently completed many laps between my SLS Black Series, AMG GT R Pro, Ford GT, and also driving a modified Supra, modified M2 CS and Robert Mitchell’s 488 Pista. This time out though, it’s with a big-gun, the McLaren Senna, one of the most ultimate in road-legal track cars and one that’s right at home for the famous loop in the Eifel Mountains. My first Senna outing at the Ring came last year, however it’s safe to say that with the recent laps under my belt, I now have a much better idea of which way things go and where to use some of the performance. The record time of 6 minutes and 47.3 seconds was achieved in the presence of a notary and surpassed even Porsche’s own expectations. Frank-Steffen Walliser, Vice President Motorsport and GT Cars, said: “At the start of the development process, we set ourselves a lap time target for the GT2 RS of less than 7 minutes and 5 seconds. The credit for beating this target by 17.7 seconds goes to our development engineers, mechanics and drivers, who demonstrated an exceptionally strong team performance. This result makes it official: The GT2 RS is not only the most powerful, but also the fastest 911 ever built”. This record was not a one-off: Lars Kern (30) from Germany and Nick Tandy (32) from the UK broke the previous record for road-approved sports cars (6 minutes, 52.01 seconds) in their first attempt and subsequently finished five laps in under 6 minutes, 50 seconds. The last (hopefully only for the season) lap for Driver Jon in the Hellcat. The Nordschleife had been closed for over 48 hours, so not a lot of rubber down on it & it was VERY slick. Despite the caution and track conditions (& the 2 of us goofing around!), he still managed to break his previous lap time (& G loads, lol!). You might be able to hear the tires, but the video does not do the BRUTALITY of this lap any justice – was an AWESOME run! Hope you enjoy watching…. If you like Driver Jon, you can you can follow him on Instagram @ Incredible lap of the Nürburgring Nordschleife that I did with the very talented Porsche factory race driver Le Mans winner Kevin Estre, in the new Porsche Weissach 991.2 GT3 RS. Identical car used by Kevin on his record n/a 6:56 lap, with suspension set up for the Nordschleife by the race team, however the car on this day was fitted with the standard Cup N2 tyres, not the faster Cup R tyres as used on the record lap. This car was loaned for the day by the Porsche factory to raise money for @dusportetplus charity at the Manthey Racing trackday. Stability control was switched off during the lap, but traction control was left on to save rear tyre wear. After Flugplatz we hit a top speed of 275km/h 171mph – some 3km/h faster at the same point than his record 6:56 lap. Thanks to Kevin for organising and the amazing driving!
Last time to have my friend ride with me in my Hellcat on the ‘Ring so Class WAS in Session! Only had a 2 hour window today so while the Nordschleife course wasn’t too crowded, the ones who WERE on the course were good & knew what they were doing….. EXCEPT the dumbass in the red Mazda. Only my 3rd time driving the Green Hell, & despite another “dirty” lap, I’m happy with a 9:34. Extremely fun to take the car almost to its limit! UPDATE: For whatever reason this video has taken off & there seems to be a lot of love for Driver Jon…. you can follow him on Instagram @ Thanx again to everyone who has enjoyed watching these videos!
